Untitled [Limens No.2] was developed in conjunction with director and film editor, Martin Fox and musician, Michael Ward as a multi-screen immersive video installation, based on Pepita's original performance. The work takes the viewers on a journey where the liminal period is re-discovered, providing an opportunity for ‘becoming’, undergoing a process of change.

Untitled [Solo] The act of mark making is about presence, knowing and movement. On a large scale mark making is akin to a dance - holding the brush, paint, space and medium you watch as the form emerges. 2020 was the first year where, out of necessity Pepita needed to move away from their relational and participatory practice of the shared act, to an exploration of the solo act. It was equally liberating and frightening- much like the year itself. This work holds a measure of both emotions, bold black strokes reveal a fragile vulnerability.

Untitled is an extension of Pepita's political works exploring ‘anti-leaders’. Specifically it responds to the black lives matter protests that spilled over from the US into countries across the globe. In a perfomative protest act, Pepita applied blackboard paint to their previous work, ironically depicting former US President, Trump, as the “Speak No Evil” monkey from the Japanese Koshin. Blackening out the painstakingly created image of Trump’s face embellished by a sea of black flowers with violently applied blackboard paint, was an act of degradation, reflecting the anger Pepita felt as the then US President divided and incensed the world.

Untitled [Distant Near] “The solo act resonates so its never alone". This video work with original sound by musician, Michael Ward, is of a solo performance filmed in Articulate Project Space during COVID lockdown in Sydney during 2020. Lisa Pang writes, "Yearning for human contact and touch is gently and profoundly realised by the video work, Untitled [Distant Near] by Renay Pepita & Michael Ward. The screen placed low on the floor reveals a body turning and curling in the same site, recorded during lockdown. It is a solo by a usually participatory performer and its melancholic soundtrack seeps into the room and the mood."

Untitled [12176] is a work calling for more visibility and dialogue on indigenous australians in custody. Incarceration rates for our first nation peoples continues to rise at unprecedented rates, representing a shared community emergency. The title references the average daily number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in jail in 2019. In context, this is 10 times greater than non-indigenous peoples.

Untitled [Tomorrow] is a confronting video that prompts viewers to consider the impact of current policies, decisions and rhetoric of the US President elect, Donald Trump, on future generations. What happens when leaders demonstrate an inordinate lack of judgement, decency, respect and wisdom?

Pepita is both curious and concerned as to when and how we discuss with each other and others the true role global leaders play and the impact of what they model.

Untitled [Antileader] is an installation that highlights the explosion of texts on leadership and the void of reciprocal action.

Pepita believes that contemporary western society understands that when it comes to leadership, we have substantially lost our way. One antidote has been to fill the void with noise in the guise of ‘how to’ books on leadership from politicians, CEOs and academics.

Shredding leadership texts acts as a reminder that despite the fact that we have more 'sage' words on leadership than we have had at any other time, we continue to have an absence of leadership. Actions do in fact speak louder than words.

Untitled is a triptych that mourns the loss of wisdom in our current political leaders [or anti-leaders]. It draws on the writings of 9th Century Japanese Buddhist monk, Ennin, who brought the Koshin folk religion to Japan. The work subverts the gestures of Iwazaru, Mikaru and Kikazaru - better known as the wise monkeys - as a reminder of the power and importance of our words, deeds and influence.

Untitled was originally developed in 2016 as a performative installation in response to the sense of despair, powerlessness and anger that Pepita felt about the implications of the rise of elected anti-leaders’ such as Donald Trump (US), Rodrigo Duterte (Philippines) and Nigel Farage (UK). The work continues to maintain its intent as a meditation on retribution, redemption, despair and hope.

Untitled [Studio Navigation] explores the colliding of private [artist studio] and public [gallery] spheres. Five video stills capture the personal and at times, awkward movements as Pepita moves through their studio space navigating objects.

Untitled is a subtle study on the performed, its constituent parts and what it means to be an artist.

This weekend I returned over 40 objects

Untitled [Vessels] was developed over three years and realised as part of the ground-breaking exhibition, 'Home'. It explored the memories embedded within the objects and vessels of Pepita's mother's home.

Over the course of the exhibition over 80 objects were re-installed, including a final installation completed by the artist and their mother.

The work acted as a performative continuation of an intergenerational conversation and a mechanism for storing new memories for a future moment.

Untitled 2019 is a performance based work that explores the voices of female artist-penned manifestos. Audience members are invited to join in group readings reconnecting themselves with the artists' words, intent and force for action. Untitled is a timely reminder of the power of the spoken word.

Untitled [26.01] maps a symbolic portion of Aboriginal ground as a 'crime scene' - a crime that is unacknowledged, pervasive and perpetual. Dimensionally, the work references the date of 26 January - a day of dispossession and mourning for our first people.

Damaged by daily traffic in the laneway where it was originally sited, the re-installation process became an important symbol of regeneration for Pepita.

Untitled [Limens] is a multi-year project resulting in a performance and video work - now being extended into a multi-channel video / sound installation. It explores the nature of bound ritual space and how individual identity is lost as we experience a 'stay' that is betwixt and between; a space where the basic building blocks of culture are exposed, a space where we find ourselves in an interstructural situation. Developed by Pepita and performed by bodyweather practitioners, Tully Doole and Robin Dean with film and images by Luke Torrevillas.

Untitled [Found] was a series of everyday moving images, captured over a two year period in impromptu settings, that responded to Pepita's ongoing fascination with the movement of light. This took many forms, flickering street lamps, dying fluorescents, partial reflections and panning daylight.

Representing a mourning for the loss of wisdom, Untitled, drew on the writings of 9th Century Japanese Buddhist monk, Ennin. Its imagery and related performers' movements paralleled those of Mizaru, Kikazaru and Iwazaru - better known as the 3 ‘wise’ monkeys. 2016 saw communities reach for a new conservatism through the act of democratic elections. Subverting the reference to seeing, hearing and speaking no evil, the work by Pepita reimagined 3 of our contemporary 'leaders' through the symbols of politics, posters and podiums. Offering simultaneously criticism and hope, Untitled was a meditation on retribution and redemption. Originally performed by body weather practitioners over 7 performances.

Untitled [Everyday Movements No.1] explored the public embrace during times of trauma. Utilising a backdrop of images from the 2015 Paris bombings, the longitudinal work encouraged participant performers to hold others over an extended period. Described as a "mediation on touch and feeling", the work acted as a call to remembrance, a reminder of the power of human connection and an antidote to sorrow. Performed by participant performers over 7 performances, this work was developed by Pepita in conjunction with body weather performer and teacher, Linda Luke.

Untitled [Take a Moment] was a participatory intervention, allowing the public to interact with their immediate built and green environment in new and unforeseen ways.

Chairs were placed at 7 sites along Sydney’s Inner West Greenway. Each chair included ‘instructions for use’ encouraging a mindful encounter through sound, smell, touch and sight. The work continued Pepita's interest in exploring disruptions to everyday activity and flow, by re-integrating pauses into contemporary life.
